Within the last twenty seven yearsthe Great Barrier Reef has lost half of its coral over because of threefactors; two which cannot be prevented and one which can. With these threefactors causing a disturbance to the reef it would take about ten to 20 yearsfor the reef to recover. However because these disturbances happen very oftenthe reef is unable to recover. The coral reef is home to many different seacreatures. With all these disturbances happen to the reef with little to notime for recovery many of these creatures homes are being threatened anddamaged causing them to have no place to live and reproduce. If these livingthings have no place to live it makes it easier for their predators to attackthem because they have no place to go and hide. Allowing these living things tobe easily attacked by their predators will result in a decrease of population forthese creatures. Also, if these creatures that live in the reef have no homeand cannot reproduce a decrease in their population will occur which will affectthe population of their predators and so on, most likely affecting the wholefood chain. Although two of the factors causing the disturbances in the reefcannot be stopped or controlled by humans the third one can and this articlewill leave you wanting to know more about how you can help stop the crown ofthorns starfish from causing anymore damage to the reef.
